How to write in a fresh way about a subject that’s been well covered? Introduce a compelling new character! So meet Tristan! In my latest for Our State Magazine, I wanted to show not merely tell how local playhouses like the Temple Theatre can transform lives. Perched in a rafter seat I wondered how to … Wait! … Who’s that lad in the derby a few seats over? And what kind of spell has clearly enraptured him??? Find out via the link below! …

It was the scorchin' summer of ‘97 when Lucy Inman shook up Los Angeles like a beboppin’ blond earthquake. With Court TV, CNN and Entertainment Tonight watching, she defended Carroll O’Connor aka Archie Bunker in a slander case brought by the man who sold dope to his late son, an addict. The jury went with Lucy and Carroll on every count, and suddenly everyone wanted the scoop on the brilliant barrister with the arresting arguments and fabulous footwear. Ever gracious, Lucy praised her colleagues and firm. We’re a few years down the road now, and she’s still a star!

Toot toot, babies! Thanks for all the beboppin' birthday wishes! Capping off the celebration w/ Tim Boyum on ‘Capital Tonight’ talking about The Horn-Tootin’ Bill – my latest for Our State Magazine on the wildly improbable creation of the NC Symphony. This is the first time we’ve both worn proper pants in ages! A symphony of style, indeed!

An alarming amount of 'sleeping around' going down here at @RDUAirport as we wait out the software snafu. A pilot just jumped on the mic at a neighboring gate to calmly but authoritatively caution people NOT to take out their frustrations on airline staff. He received a round of applause. There's hope for humanity yet!

“They was bakin’ MARIJUANA in their cookies and havin’ marijuana parties,” the late, great Pratt Winston told me with a cackle. “Then they tried to make me lose my dang accent.” But the self-described “redneck” who conquered hipster New York never lost track of what he loved – barn dances, boats and big ideas. The inventor of the Space Ball stereo, a ‘60s-70s sensation, has now journeyed beyond our corner of the cosmos. I was delighted to chronicle his life for Our State Magazine and others (see below) and to spend lots of time taking other-worldly trips w/ him via unconstrained conversations. Pratt was a rascal who didn’t compromise. Good luck to whatever extraterrestrial life forms he’s tuned into now. What a ride, eh Mark Kemp, Brian McFadden & David Iversen?!

My latest for Our State Magazine profiles #NC’s funkiest farmer. Former jazz drummer Danny McConnell transformed his family’s mountainside acres into a tasty Kingdom of Quirk – w/ madcap ice cream mash-ups, exotic figs and endless experiments. Be bold, be imaginative, be like Danny! Steve Troxler NC Rural Center Henderson County Chamber of Commerce NC State - College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

So many masterworks in this photo! There's the larger-than-life sculpture courtesy of client Dix Park Conservancy, visionary board member Marjorie Hodges, acclaimed artist DeWitt Godfrey and photo-snapping journalist Liza Roberts ... WOW! Cheers on the launch of Dix Park's arts program, and get ready for more masterstrokes ahead. W/ RLF Communications

Was delighted to invite RLF Communications colleagues Hannah Allison & Cara Neely into the inner sanctum of NC’s chattering class for a recent taping of "Capital Tonight." Here we are once the camera stopped rolling, w/ Tim Boyum and Brian Lewis unable to stop chattering about how GREAT the show was!

Is your organization prepared to survive a cataclysmic event such as a terrorist attack or sweeping pandemic? It’s awful to think about, but thinking things through now is key. Straight out of RLF Communications, Monty Hagler and I offer the following guide. Here’s hoping the future is bright … but if not: https://lnkd.in/dB96iwY3 Thanks to WRAL TechWire!
